Great Picture and Sound, Plays All Media Files, But Player Has Minor Issues.
<<Oct 30, 2014>>>
Firmware updates are now far and between as Samsung has made firmware improvements. Firmware is now at 1018. I have noticed an old and possibly a new browser issue. I noticed on one occassion after opening the browser settings window, I could not close it unless I reopened the browser. I have not tried to duplicate the issue since. An important old issue still remains... logging in at some websites don't work properly, such as Coursera.org, EDX.org, and Yahoo.com which sites I visit frequently. To login to Coursera and Yahoo, I use my keyboard to type my username and have to use the player's input to enter my password. With EDX I cannot login with the browser at all. Very frustrating! I can login to Amazon without problems.
Other player functionality remains great. I have not noticed much difference if any between the last couple of firmware updates.

Don't get if you have a 2014 UHD TV with built in upscaling.
I bought this player to go with my new 65" Samsung HU8550. I Figured what's the point of an expensive 4k tv without an expensive 4k upscaling bot-ray player. Well whenever the blu-ray is outputting it's signal in 2160 my movies look dull almost DVD quality. The only way I can watch a clear movie it to set the blu-ray player to only output in 1080p man and not in 4k. The brilliant people at Samsung helpline could only deduct i needed to reset my players settings, which I tried. Finally after talking to the store I got my TV from (an exclusive samsung dealer) they got a hold of a samsung level 3 tech who said what was happening was not only was my player upscaling and outputting in 2160 but then my new 4k tv was upscaling too causing the dull picture. They said just leave the player on 1080p an I'll be fine. Which led me to the question, "what is the point of the 4k upscaling blu-ray player?" They're response was, "for you with the new model tv there really isn't...
Fast blu ray player, amazing picture and FEW ISSUES !
I would say its undoubtedly one of the best blu ray players for 2013 with 4k upscaling with a few issues.
I have always been a fan of Samsung blu ray family. This time wanted to try out the others in the market as i was disappointed that my 2011 TV dint have Amazon instant video and so did my 2011 Samsung BDD6700 blu ray player.
I have tested out the following
1) Sony BDP-S790 (2012 model continues to 2013)
Have never been a great fan of Sony. But wanted to give it a try. I knew i am not a person who loves sony's interface and their clunky plastic remote, that makes noise every time you click a button. But yet, as i have heard the great picture quality i wanted to give it a try.
As expected, faster loads/reads of blu ray disc had great picture. But the annoying sounds from pressing the plastic button on the so plasticky remote, slow buffering speeds while watching internet movies (netflix, vudu) and everytime trying to figure out your...
