Sony BDV-E385 - Home Theater System

So much potential, but so disappointing
I was very much enticed by the price of this receiver, especially considering all the bells and whistles it came with for the price. However, in the week I had it, I experienced nothing but problems.

Installation: Simple enough, just plug and play. Unless you have a room that is larger than that of a small bedroom. If you speakers won't reach behind you with the few feet of speaker wire already attached, you have to cut the proprietary speaker inputs that plug into the receiver to splice on the necessary amount of wire to reach your desired locations along with the receiver inputs. Connecting the receiver to the TV is simple enough, but unless you're using component cables, both an HDMI cable and RCA audio out (Red/White Cables) or a digital audio out cable (none of which are included by the way) are required. This seems silly to me as an HDMI cable is capable of transferring both audio and video signals.

exceeded my expectations
now, if you are looking for a "home theatre in a box"-type system, you need to keep your expectations in check....if you're expecting something comparable to a $1500 high-end system, you're simply out of your mind. that said, i was quite surprised with the sound i got out of this system, filling my living room with ease without any distortion. the 3D blu-ray player performs nicely, having tested a few 3D movies already. while i haven't tried all the apps yet, there are quite a few to choose from. from a music standpoint only, my audio CDs sound great on it, so that was refreshing to discover....and by extension, the ipod plug-in is nice to have.

one negative is that there isn't an equalizer where you can set your own bass/treble levels, but there are several sound modes to choose from....so far, these choices have been adequate enough, but i'd still appreciate having the option of setting the levels myself. another slight negative is that the radio is only FM....probably...

Powerful system and speakers works well

updated the version of the system in less than 2 min using cable-vision internet connection and ethernet cable
very powerful system I increase the db volume for all the speakers including subwoofer
everything works as described would buy another one of these in the future
!!!!I do not recommend anyone to use slow wifi connection with a streaming device is useless!!!!
