Great TV
My wife and I bought this after selling our daughter Amanda into white slavery. We actually got a refurbished. It’s missing the remote, but oh well– for $20K off, I can afford a universal, right? The picture is amazing. I’ve never seen the world with such clarity.

I just wanted to add an addendum to my review. Since posting it, we have received a flood of responses. People have said some pretty hurtful things–even questioning our values. Let me assure you, this was not an easy decision to make, and we made it as a family. Obviously, it’s very personal. But in light of all the second-guessing, I wanted to explain our thinking.

So I bought two of these, one for my house and one for my yacht, because I hate the learning curve for new electronics. Let me just say WOW! The high quality images that are produced by this device make real life look fake. I cant wait to watch 50 Shades of Grey on this thing!

Samsung UN78JS9500 Curved 78-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV
Best 4k display made.
Need to spend some time before providing more details, clearly the best 4k LED made, much better black levels than the 9000.
Silent some time with the 9500 and it is clearly better than the 9000. The differnce would be similar to the 900B Sony and the 950B Sony. Of course when it comes to the 64" size the price difference is much closer with the JS9000 and JS9500. The JS9000 is IMO the best edge lit 4K display and the JS9500 is the best FALD display on the market. The processing speed of the smart apps is a big improvement over previous models. If you can afford to buy either model you will be very happy.
The only big negative with either and this is with any LED accept for LG panels is the loss of contrast and colors when you move to the angles. I choose this over plasma because I hate the heat and dullness of the plasma picture in day lights. OLED's another option but with 65" OLED 4Ks at $10,000 it's a matter of a person budget. I owned the un65f900 and was given this as a replacement. the un65f900 had been serviced 6 times. the one connect box was the major problem and eventually the tech advised samsung to replace... they refused and basically blew me off over and over again until I threatened legal action.
They then issued me the js9500. Ihave had this tv for about 2 months now and can tell you this.
pros
tizen os is stable for the most part
tizen os is easy to use
smart remote is the best remote I've ever used.
the contast restarting of the sek2000 and sek2500 one connect boxes seems to be resolved.
one connect box makes wiring easier
fald when viewed straight on is everybit as good as led and plasma if not better
fald when viewed at 15-45 degrees is still far better than edge lit however haloing becomes visible with things like text on black
screen curve is nice from all view angles and disappears when watching media
stand is much smaller...

Close to being the best
OK, I have this thing only about two weeks, so I'll give you my initial impressions. Excellent picture, even in HD. When in UHD it's hard to describe how good it really is. The best source material I can find is streaming 2160 UHD from YouTube. Not only is there noticeably more detail (comparing to the same stream in HD), but color seems to be more precisely saturated (meaning that the color is exactly where is should be and not where is shouldn't). Watching House of Cards stream in 2160 HD on Netflix is excellent. It's more like comparing high resolution outputs from a fine camera than looking at a TV.
One thing we noticed when switching back to HD (1080P) is that you look at the HD and say, wow, it really doesn't look as sharp as 2160. I didn't think I would notice the difference but I did and it is signifcant.
OK, now the bad. The firmware is not that good. Just doesn't seem that intuitive. OK, you can get past that, but one thing I am having a major...
Great TV with ground breaking sound quality
I own this TV and love it. I ended up purchasing it from a local retailer, only because they offered the TV also with the Sony subwoofer AND a free Toshiba 40 inch LCD TV both thrown in at the same price as on Amazon.
The picture and sound are outstanding. What really makes this TV shine when compared to other 4K TV's is the sound quality. My wife and I compared the sound output to other 4K sets (including Sony) in the store, and there is simply no comparison. The sound output is almost as good as my previous Sony Home theater sound system (which I have since taken out), with the only advantage of a home theater system being the surround speakers mounted in the corners of the room. This is such a minor issue to me that I no longer needed the theater system, leaving a much cleaner and neat looking TV cabinet (with only a blue ray player and Apple TV now along with the TV itself). Outstanding. I've owned the XBR65X900B for about 3 months now and it absolutely blows away any TV I've ever owned. Sony nailed it with this model. The picture is a dream. The color, contrast and clarity are surreal. I've had several people comment that it's the best picture quality they have ever seen. I can't agree more. My set up is Verizon FIOS 75/75, Oppo BDP, Yamaha RX-A1040 Avantage receiver with JBL Studio speakers and sub in a 5.1 array. I stream blu-ray content from a Qnap nas. I don't care for all of the apps and whatnot, but 4K streaming from Netflix will leave you speechless. It has worked flawlessly and although there were a couple of freeze ups early on, sony pumped a couple of firmware updates that have since resolved that. Just cannot recommend this TV enough.

The fine print of extra costs they don't tell you about
This TV will cost you more than just the sticker price...figure in another $100K. This is for the additional room i had to install on to my studio apartment because the TV just wouldn't fit.
Better than 65 weaker tv's
I had an option to either buy this TV or about 65 smaller 4k Ultra HD tv's, and instead of buying 65 smaller tv's and making a giant tv out of tiled screens, i decided to go with one giant 98" tv instead.
Which is nice, this only takes up 1/2 of my living room wall instead of the entire wall surface area of my whole apartment that 65 smaller tv's would.

Wow, what can I possibly say about this TV? It is the most magnificent thing that I own, hands down. That being said, I had to sell all of my possessions to purchase it, so it's really by default that it's the most magnificent thing that I own.
At first I thought, "who would pay $40k for a TV when I could get a 4K TV that is virtually the same size and has all the same features for $35k less?", but then I noticed that you get free shipping with this. It was wonderful. They brought the TV all the way to my dwelling and even tried to set it up for me along the back wall of the cardboard box I now live in. I feel so fortunate to have such a beautiful picture to look at for my last few days of life on this earthly plane since I also had to sell both kidneys to help finance the purchase. Had I known that I need at least one of my kidneys... Well, hindsight's 20/20.
Either way, what a wonderful product, I just can't say enough.

I love this thing. I can still remember the first time my friends came over. their faces were almost as much as this tv but not priceless. The picture is the greatest the sound is sublime. The sharpness and color is unparalleled. Was completely worth joining forces with Daedric Prince Molag Bal and allowing him to take my little sister.

You might want to wait for the price to drop, but you won't be sorry!
I purchased this TV last week locally (Sorry Amazon) after considering the previous 9000 series (UN65HU9000FXZA) for the past couple of months. Is this TV worth $1,500 more than the previous version? (as of this writing in early April, 2015 this model is selling everywhere for $4,999). Probably not, but hey, if you can afford it and you are an early adopter like me, go for it. The picture quality is outstanding! This television is noticeably brighter than the previous model in the head to head,in-store comparisons I did. Some reviewers have complained about reflections on the shiny curved screen. Although this model has the same surface finish, I haven't noted any major problems with reflections. This TV is plenty bright enough despite being in a family room with lots of big windows and skylights. The colors are extremely vivid and the depth enhancement function is pretty wild as well. As several others have discussed with the previous model, you'll need to experiment with settings...
Excellent upconversion.
I've had this for 3 weeks now, and I'm very pleased with it.
Pros: Excellent picture (from straight on).
Excellent 4k upconversion from HD satellite channels (DirecTV).
Cons: Very poor off-axis viewing, including looking up or down at the screen.
This set is a step down from Samsung's 2015 flagship, the fald JS9500. It has a bright display (600 nits peak brightness), wide color gamut (92% of the DCI-P3 cinema standard), and of course 4k resolution. If I overlook the deterioration in picture quality if I move several feet to one side or stand up, it is the best TV picture I've ever seen -- much better than the plasma sets I've had, and also better than the 2014 HU8550, which I also have. The best of the satellite channels I watch upscale from 1080i to look almost as good as blu-ray 1080p.
This is an edge-lit set, which makes it economical, but it does sometimes show some bright areas on the screen which don't belong there. I seldom...

Light on great blacks, light off and nothing is watchable, see photos. This is what the pro reviews are not telling you.
I lowered my review because the backlight with lights out is horrible. This display is great with any light on, the filter will makes blacks look black. With the lights out the flashlights come out and expose the truth. The photos exaggerate the actual black levels making them worse than they are but they are much worse than a Sony 900B. The 900B Sony is much better in the dark and the JS9000 is better in any room with lights. If you watch tv in the dark a lot, avoid the JS9000 or you will not be happy. The best 4K display I have seen in a lit room, very nice display but dark room viewing and it goes down hill.
This JS9500 is full-array Back-lit and should perform much better...

Sony XBR-55X900A 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 120Hz 3D Smart LED TV (Black)
Better than most New York Theaters!
Today I threw out the humongous carton that came with the Sony XBR65X900A.
I bought this set exactly 30 days ago from Amazon. It took a lot of effort to get it ready for view, the TV cabinet, the Sony technicians for the 4K Media Player, Time Warner Cable, and a physical wired ethernet connection for the Sony Media Server. The hard work was worth it as the picture from this thing is better than anything I have seen at the best New York theaters; including screens at AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13, BAM Rose Cinema, Lincoln Plaza, Ziegfeld, Regal Battery Park and the fabulous Paris Theatre. The sound at level 45 is at 98 decibels in my 21x14' room while playing Avatar in 3D. Oh yes, the 3D with the Sony passive glasses are the absolute best 3D I have seen at any setting. Less confusing than at an IMAX theater, the details are pristine and there are no confusing backgrounds to foregrounds even with Avatar. Watch Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas and you have the best 3D demo up...
False Advertising
If you're looking for a 4K TV and have the option to choose any other model, please do so. Until more content comes out one of the biggest benefits to 4K TVs is the ability to watch 3D in full 1080p Resolution. According to Sony's website both the 55" and the 65" version like all other 4K TVs on the market have this ability. Well that's a complete lie.
When I initially purchased this TV I was amazed at the color and picture quality, I even enjoyed the sound coming from the side speakers so much that I didn't need to setup my sound system. However when I popped in a 3D Movie I was disappointed to see visible vertical lines. I assumed this was probably a limitation to my blu-ray player. However, watching the same movie on the same player at my buddy's place who owns the 65" version he bought AFTER seeing my 55" version shows how wrong I was. Passive 3D on his TV compared to mine made it seem like I owned a cheaper older 1080 TV and in a way I was right...

Was a BELIEVER!! But now throwing in the TOWEL!!!
I rated this television 5 stars after making a few picture adjustments that seemed to literally POP the picture out - possessing a depth-of-field approaching 3D; however, I now must downplay that review.
In addition to my 4K I own a Sony XBR-HX929 (a year old set), and found that making similar picture adjustments produced a near identical picture.
This realization was disconcerting given the vaunted 4K technology in which I made a significant investment was reduced to me having to stand a few feet away to attempt to see something, anything, that was different (i.e., better than my year old set). Knowledgeable of the return policy of the vendor from whom I purchased the 4K, I found myself thinking more and more of divesting myself of this...underwhelming yet significantly priced new innovation.
In hopes that perhaps seeing native 4K from the media server (just made available) would sway me, I purchased one and enthusiastically hooked it up and awaited...
