A lot of capability in a small, economical package
This was a Christmas present purchased at our local discount department store for less than a $100. For the money the Panasonic DMP-BD901 BluRay Player provides a lot of bang for the buck. Below is my review:

Plays a lot of video formats
Good user interface
Very good manual
Hard drive support

Dislikes
No analog or SPDF output capability
Does not support legacy High Definition audio discs
BluRay players have come a long way in the last few years and this is a very good example of that. I bought this player for use with the television in the sewing room and so was not looking for a lot of sophisticated features. As it turns out, I got most of the things I would be looking for in a main system player anyway.
I have tried most of the normal CD, DVD, and BluRay formats except the net enabled ones and had no...

Initially worked beautifully!! Loved that I can watch a movie off an external drive with USB.

I saw this review on the DMP-BD871 2D Blu Ray DVD unit and am having the same problems here:
{ there were DVD menu freezes, streaming freezes, then a notice popped up for a firmware update. After updating, it freezes more often than before, and has gotten to the point where even the power button on top of the machine won't work. It won't play an entire movie without freezing, and at most you can watch 45 minutes of Netflix. Even after being disconnected from...
Don't do it, keep looking.
I purchased the Panasonic DMP-BD901 from a big box store. It has a ton of desirable features, and for under $100 I thought it was a great deal. The first couple time it happened I blamed it on the dog sitting on the remote. But then I started noticing it happened even when the remote was sitting on the table. Add to that the fact that as mentioned in a previous review it is ridiculously slow, and it often won't connect with the...
