Sennheiser MX 686G Sports Earbud Headset

Above Average
I have to admit that at first glance the Sennheiser MX686G Earbud Headset looks pretty much like every other headset in this price range. Looks can be deceiving. After a little over two weeks of continuous use these are my thoughts on this product.

Out of the box, this headset comes packed with cable clip, instructions and storage pouch. The manufacturer tags this product with a two year limited warranty. The ear buds are also fitted with a built in anti-bacterial material. The almost neon lime green color is actually growing on me.

Now for the test. At first I wasn't totally on board with the comfort. Thanks in part to the slide to fit technology I was able to adjust the set for a decent comfort level. The cable looks and feels solid. Another plus was that I didn't get the usual tangled mess when I was running.

Sound wise, this Sennheiser headset isn't going ring up any serious points but it does do a decent job of balancing the tunes without any...

Not for my ears.
I haven't bought into a single brand of headphones. I'm willing to give them all a try. And my requirements are rather simple - comfortable fit and clear, enjoyable sound.

Over the past few years, Bose SIE2 headphones have been my tool of choice for working out and commuting. They don't include a mic or remote control (the SIE2i pair do, now renamed to the Bose SoundSport). So, when I saw the Sennheiser MX 686G pair available with a mic and remote, I decided to give them a try - and see if they could be my new go-to pair of headphones. I can already say that will not be the case.

Note: I know there is a pretty decent price difference between the Bose and Sennheiser, but they are the closest match I have.

That's not to say these are bad headphones, but go back to my requirements for a good pair of headphones - comfortable fit and clear sound.

Comfort - This Sennheiser set hurts my ears. No matter how I adjust them, they hurt. After only about...

Solid performing sports earbuds.
These are very good sports headphones. The major differences on these are (1) they're not noise cancelling or blocking, so you should be able to hear cars, approaching bikes, angry dogs, etc. while you run, provided you aren't blowing out your ears; and (2) they have a cross-bar that fits on the rim of your ear, helping them stay in place while you're in motion. Both of those features worked well for me - up to now, I've relied on iPhone style disk earbuds, where the whole disk sits in my ear, but these stay in as well as my old standards, and they stay in better than any other plug style I've tried. Particularly for people who are uncomfortable with the disk style, these would be a very good choice.

Otherwise, they're just very good earbud style headphones. The sound is as good as any other earbuds I've tried and better than most, and calls sound good. Recommended.
