Love - With Three Small Gripes
I just bought this TV a few days ago, and since receiving it and using it, I can honestly say I love it. It is my favorite TV of the many I've owned, a spot previously held by a Philips 1080p with Ambilight which, while dated, was reliable and beautiful. But this new XBR takes the cake. That said, I do have three small complaints, two of which could be fixed with software/firmware updates (hint, hint if anyone at Sony engineering is reading this). I'll start with the good, and move to the complaints.
THE GOOD:
The Picture - This is probably the most important thing to most TV purchasers, and I can tell you that this TV does not disappoint. The color is beautiful, which is apparently to be expected based on professional reviews of past years of the XBR line. The colors are bright, motion is smooth, blacks are deep, and I have yet to see an artifact that isn't the result of Internet streaming. The 4K is very impressive. There isn't a ton of 4K content out...
Excellent picture quality, beautiful set, amazing 4K
I remember back in the 1980's, Sony TVs were the thing to get. Those Trinitron CRT sets just seemed to have a brighter, crisper picture than anyone else out there. They suffered a little bit in the last few years as their competitors closed the gap of price and quality. This new series of 4K TVs may be just the thing Sony needs to remind everyone that they're still one of the best out there.
I had a couple things on my list: 4K, 3D, a decent-looking design, a set that wouldn't be obsolete in a year, and a set that was relatively affordable. Here's how the set did.
4K:
The first time I walked into a Best Buy and saw a TV with a 4K picture, my jaw dropped. Seeing 4K for the first time reminded me of the time I saw 1080i for the first time in a Tokyo airport. The picture improvement is that much clearer and crisper. Sure enough, the 4K rendering on this set is terrific--color fidelity is spot-on and the picture is bright.
Of course, 4K is...
Nine Nice Surprises and How To Hookup Wiring
My wood home entertainment center is nine feet long. I had to get a TV to fit the center cabinet. It was interesting that the new Sony 55" (diagonal) set was 3" larger then my old 52" set but the length and width was smaller because the screen went to 3/8" from the edge. There were two 3D 4K Sony 55" sets on sale. One had rear speakers and the other had side speakers. The one with side speakers would not fit in my cabinet and I thought it looked odd, just too wide. Also the speakers were not covered. I don't like looking at speaker cones. But the one with rear speakers had poorer sound. What to do?
What I like about amazon.com is that they have honest customer reviews. Reading them I found the solution. What most customers did was to buy a Sony Soundbar. The TV has two support legs at the ends and the Soundbar sits cleanly in the middle. This was another feature I liked because my old TV had a center mount which made the cabinet wood deck sag.
But what really...
